Pie Jesu is a hypnotic work for mezzo-soprano and piano, initially premiered in Tufts Distler Performance Hall two years ago. Taking inspiration from the harmony of Satie and Duruflé, this setting of the Requiem Mass text juxtaposes sparse and dense chords, allowing the soloist’s voice to float above the accompaniment.
